    The Procedure of Using Glue

    Step-1 Prepare The Wood for Weld with Glue.

    The selection of wood panels is most important, and some primary jobs must be done before joining. Select the straight panel and smoothen the surface with a surface planer and make sure that your panel is oil or grease-free. Now clean the surface by using a soft cloth and make sure it’s dust-free because the bonding of the surface will hamper dust.

    Step-2 Indicate Visible Part and Arrange for Alignment.

    The shade and grain patterns are essential when you are making a furniture part. If you select the wrong shade and pattern, the appearance of the visible look will look odd. To avoid this problem lay off the selected panels on a flat floor or workplace.

    Arrange all the panels according to their shades and grain arrangements and try to come out with the best match. After arranging all the panels draw arrow marks across the aligned boards at a minimum of 3 places using chalk and numbering them with a dark carpenter’s pencil from left to right. This mark will guide you in realigning the panel.

    Step-3 Apply Glue to the Edge of the Panels.

Now take panels individually and slide over the wood scrap matching arrow mark and also panel numbering. Once the alignment is done perfectly, you are ready to give pressure using clamps.

    This pressure ensures the spreading of glue to each point of the edge between surfaces. In the case of a longboard, you must take care of avoiding the bowing effect in the final transformation. The main tricks to minimize or avoid the bowing effect are using maximum clamps along the length of boards. Now you are ready for the final process of this basic method.

    Step-5 Remove the Excess Glue Splash Out From the Joining Edge.

    When you arranged all the glued lumbers together, we must observe some glue spilled out. Now you have to remove this excess glue from the surface before getting dry.

    It may take an hour to get dry properly in the open air, so take a wood chisel or thin plywood and remove it properly. Always try to remove within half an hour. Now leave it to dry overnight. In next day your new structure of tabletop is totally ready for the next operation.

    There are some specific advantages of wood gluing is observed. Wood gluing is comparatively easy to perform than other mechanical methods. In this method, some long, thin channels are created lengthwise in every piece of panel edge and after that, to secure the wooden board lengthwise some small pieces of wood are used here.

    The piece of wood which is glued in channels to join two pieces of wood together is oval-shaped almost like a biscuit, and this is the reason this method is called a biscuit jointer or plate jointer.  This method is used to a large extent with plywood, medium-density fiberboard, particleboard, and sometimes we observer in mortise or tenon joining because this method creates a strong bond between boards or solid pieces.

    But the biscuit jointer is mostly used in edge to edge joining process to enlarge the boards for special projects.     The procedure of Biscuits Joiner

    Step-1 Arrange the Selected Boards and Slot Marking.

    You must arrange all the pre-selected and prepared boards for joining. In this step, align all the boards to match the color of shade and grain as required for a seamless look. If you don’t give effort in this step, you will never get a perfect appearance invisible side. When you can match all the panels, now you have to indicate the position of grooving channels on each edge of the boards. 

    But the question is, how many channels do I need for biscuits joiner? Basically, we use three or more channels for lengthwise joining. So mark three or more slots across the length of panels to indicate the biscuit’s positions. These points must be equal from both edges of each panel.

    We have a secret trick to make slots equidistant from both sides of each panel. Once you have matched all the panels, arrange all your boards into floor clamps and give pressure. Now put marks along with the joining point of panels using scale and pencil and transfer them to the other panels.

    Later on, separate all the panels and make final marks for slots and make sure that all the mark is centered based on the previous mark and the width is based on the pieces of biscuits you are going to use.

    Step-2 Prepare the Biscuits Joinery and Cuts.

    In this step you know where to make cuts for the slot, take your biscuit joiner, and set the plunge depth adjuster according to your biscuit size. Here your slot must be cut as half as biscuits width.  Now set the slot centering mark in edge depth of panels by height-adjusted knob and also set the joiner base in the center position to work vertically.

    Finally, you are ready to cut biscuits. Now grip the joiner by the handle and switch the power button, here you go. For better reinforcement, you can use large biscuits.

    Step-3 Now Inserts Biscuit Between Two Panels.

    Once the slot is created, now you are ready to join two boards edge to edge. Before joining the board, you must clear the excess dust and wood bran from the slot.

    Now take a panel from the bottom of your arrangement and apply wood glue to each biscuit and panel edge and insert to the slot and give pressure by thumb and set the other board. Now clamps all the board and let them dry overnight.

To be specific in this method, a Kreg jig or other similar tools is used to make a slanted hole or pocket and then insert the screws to make them align and join together.     Step -1 Mark for Pocket Hole on the Panel.

    Lay off the panels on the flat surface and match grain and shade for a better look and divide the boards into 3 or 4 parts equally alongside the length using measurement tape. Here you can also make 2 points of the pocket hole. It actually depends on your board’s length. Now put final marks on the panel where you want to make holes exactly following the previous indication.

    Step -2 Measure Panel Width and Set Jig’s Collar Accordingly.

    At this moment, you will measure the plank thickness. After measuring the depth now, you have to set the collar of the jig you are using. For this insert the drill bit into a jig’s hole and push it until its tip touches the surface of the plank.

    When the tip of the jig touches the surface now, you can easily set the collar to adjust the depth of the hole you required. You will get the entire useful measurements list from many units for attaching the Kreg jigs base. Make sure you are going to make this hole with the exact position of hole pockets with a guide.

    Step -3 Clamp Kreg Jig to Plank and Start Drilling. 

    Once all the necessary adjustment is made accurately now clamp your jig’s guide on marked lumber.     Step -1 Make the Position for Dowels.

Since you will insert the dowels in both planks, you have to make that the location of all marks is equidistant. Be careful in marking the locations because if a single mistake occurs, the chances of getting an uneven panel finish are high.

    Step-2 Making a Pilot Hole.

    Before creating any messed-up situation, making a pilot hole for the test is a great idea. Take a drill bit and add masking tape around the bit to adjust the half depth of dowels’ full length. In this case, measure the diameter of the dowel and take an accurate drill bit. Now attach the drill bit and start drilling to make a test hole on the edge of the planks. Remove the wood bran from the hole and fit the dowels to check the fitting of the dowels.

    Step -3 Bore All Remaining Holes.

    After getting the accurate bit and perfect adjustment of depth for holes, drill all the remaining holes using bore. Now insert all the dowel rods and make sure that they are snuggly fitted.

    Step-4 Slide Over the Planks and Clamp to Secure Final Bonding.

    Apply adhesive to the dowels and edge of the plank and connect to planks through dowels. Give extra pressure by mallet and clamp them for rest. After 20 minutes scrape the extra glue from the surface of the boards and let them for several hours to dry.

    We have lots of wood joinery methods to make strong bonding on a panel together. Today, some of the methods we used for making out patio tables will reveal. However, the following methods will be done properly by using metal fasteners and glues with other tools.

    Tools and Materials Required

    Wood Edge Joint Using Glue and Screw (Lengthwise)

    From the beginning, we make a perfect plan to do this project easily and efficiently. For this purpose, we divided our projects into different categories and steps. Follow the step-by-step method to understand the whole process. Here we will also give other possible ways of doing the same job. However, we have a plan of making 40×20 inches square table for 8 people.

    Step-1 Prepare the Wood for Joining is the Primary Stage of Joining Wood

    The surface must be smoothened by using sharp knives with proper feed. We wipe out almost 2mm from the surface of oak and also 1 mm from the edge by using a surface planner. Don’t use sandpaper before joining. Here we are going to use 8 inches width and ¾ inches thick boards. Ensure moisture content between 8/12 percent and don’t use wet wood. Now clean the surface of boards and make it dust, oil, grease-free.

    Step-2 Arrange Boards for Indicating the Visible Side

    After preparing the boards, we arrange 5 boards (8×5=40 inches) to match the grainline for the visible side of the table. Now give arrow signs from the right side of the boards in a minimum of two places on both boards that will join together. Besides, we cut the length of the boards to 40 inches before matching the grain line. The top of the table is natural in appearance because we matched it properly.

    Step-3 Layoff the Boards Into Small Wooden Strips

    We put three strips of wood across the surface and lay off, 5 boards, into it. However, this step isn’t important because we are using it to protect our surface from seeping out excess glue after giving pressure by clumps. If your board is larger then using more strips is the best practice because it will help to make the straight transformation of boards after gluing if you are still confused then skip this step and keep safe from the bowing effect.

    Step-4 Groove the Edge for Screwing

    Now we grooved 2 points from the 1-inch distance from the edge. However, we cut grooves from both edges of the middle boards for better strength and join. This structure will give a better result and will be able to carry much load for a long time use.

    Step-5 Apply Glue Along the Edge of Boards Evenly

    After cleaning the edge, add glue to one board because excess glue may cause a mess. We hold the glue tube gently and apply it steadily to the edge from the left side to the right. After applying the glue, we spread it on the entire surface by using a thin piece of plyboard very quickly.

    Step-6 Align All the Boards Into a Clamp and Flush

    This step is essential for the lengthwise joining of wooden boards. We align all the boards and flush them into clamps after adequate pressure on each board. We use four clamps to a total of 40 inches in length. Also, we already discussed the bowing effect on your plane. If you don’t care about the proper adjustment of boards in the raw gluing situation, you will get an imperfection board for your projects.

    Step-7 Remove Distorted Glue from the Top Surface

    We wipe out all the excess glue which comes out for pressure within a putty knife after half an hour. In this situation, you can also use a thin piece of plyboard or sharp metal to scrap out the extra glue from the surface.  If boards are small, cleaning the surface of the board instant with a soft cloth is a better idea. Now leave your boards for hours to dry wooden glue perfectly. In humid conditions, it may take several hours to dry. At this moment, don’t move your boards and wait for the next step.

    Step-8 Screw or Nail the Boards

    As we are discussing how to join pieces of wood with screws, so we select 1 ½ inch screws. Now flip out the boards after 2 hours and screw the boards using a drill. Don’t insert a screw without making a hole. If the number of panels is high in your projects, you can create a grove and then screw for joining planks. On the other hand, if you have 2 panels, you don’t need extra support by screwing them because the vertical gluing is much stronger than horizontal attachment in the case of a wooden structure.

    Step-9 Attach 40 Inches Scrap Wood for Support

    We attach 40 inches long, and 2×2 inches of scrap wood for giving extra support vertically.

    Step-10 Allow it to Dry for the Whole Night 

    After completing the entire task on boards, we leave let it dry overnight. The strength of glue increases over time and doesn’t apply to the next step.

    How to join two pieces of wood at a 90-degree angle with and without screws?

    Method-1 Corner Joint by Pocket Holes

    Step-2

    According to wood thickness set the jig’s depth. In this step, we set the jig’s depth against our wood panels. Here we are using 4×4 inches square legs and ¾ inch box apron. Considering the thickness of the apron panel, we adjust the jig. A quality jig can make your jobs easier because it has developed an alignment guide.

    Step-3

    Check the drill bit into the jig’s hole and adjust. The drill bit has a collar which is a guideline to control hole depth into the wood panel. You can easily move the collar along the drill bit. Now we loosen the collar from the drill bit using a wrench and insert it into the hole of the jig. When the bit tip touches the surface, we measure 1/8 inch distance between the jig’s body and bit collar and tighten the collar.

    Step-4

    Clamps the jig into the panel. Now adjust the jig in the marked point of the apron and tight it properly to lock it before this adjustment makes sure the face you are using to drill.

    Step-5

    Make the pocket holes. Set the bit into the power drill and insert the bit to make a hole into the apron. Make sure the speed of your power drill because if you need a clean finish, you must drill at high speed. Now clean the shavings and make another hole besides.

    Step-6

    Panel arranges for joining. After making the pocket holes, it’s time to join the apron with the square panel. For this, we apply glue to the joining end and align them to place them in the right position. Now tighten the clumps and make sure the pilot hole is in the right position. The placement of both pieces is important; otherwise, they could flush while joining.

    Step-7

    Choose and Drill the screw through the pilot hole. This screwing through the pilot hole to join the apron with the wood panel is tricky. If you don’t use the proper screw size, then the effort will be worthless. For this, choose your screw sizes according to the thickness of your objects. Here, we are using a 1 ¼ inch screw for a ¾ inch thick apron.

    Now place the screw into the drill tip and insert it through the pilot hole. Now drive slowly until it gets fitted and try the second hole in the same way.

    Step-8

    Step-1          

    First, we take long wooden dowels of ¼ inches diameter and mark from the ending point by using measurement tape. Since the endpoint of dowels will remain unfinished, you can add ½ mm extra with length. Here we will take 1 ½ inch because we use this for mortise of furniture and finishing will be done after joining.

    Now clamps the wooden dowels and place the mark side to top as you have done before. This mark will guide measurement. Ensure the holding capacity against a given force that will create by wire cutters.

Since we are taking 1 ½ inches length for each piece, we take exactly 1 ½ inches length measurement from the left end of the drilled stock and mark it for cutting. After that, we cut exactly 1 inch vertically. This space is made for the circular blade.

    Align the wooden stock to the side of the blade and clamp the long end to the table saw sled. Now adjust the height of the blade to 1 inch above the sled. Now the dowel cutting jig is ready for work.

    Wear all the safety pieces of equipment like hand gloves, goggles, fitting dress, etc. before working with any power saw.

    Finally, insert the dowels from the long end of the stock and stop using a figure of the plastic stopper. When cutting is completed, give pressure and pull out the small dowels from the jig.     Step-1

    Take a hardwood stock 2×2inches for the jig. Make ¼ inch hole horizontally in the middle of stock. Here we take about an inch from the endpoint and halfway through the depth of stock.

    Set the length of the dowel to the stock width at the endpoint. However, we take 1 ½ inches length from the right corner of width at stock and leave half an inch to the right side. Now cut the stock vertically by using a circular blade. This cut allows the band saw to pass through the stock and cut the length of dowels.

    Now set the main component of the jig with 1/8 inches thin plywood sheet and a meter gauge. Here we used a plastic meter gauge and screwed it to the saw table.

Glue a plastic material to the contact surfaces of dowels and set this by following the no step.
